I just wanted to see if anyone had any idea on the problem I am having with a friends computer. When I turn on the computer it goes through the POST fine and then loads up Win XP. After that the screen goes black like its going to show the log on screen. But that screen never comes up. The screen just stays black. The hard drive light doesn't light up at all while the screen is black and all I hear is the loud CPU fan going around. When I boot into safe mode it boots fine and I can get to the desktop. Does anyone have any ideas about this? What should I check out? Thanks for the help.

What happens in VGA mode? That uses your current video driver, but only at 640x480. That would show if someone set the screen resolution or refresh too high, if that boots successfully.

Another thing to try is "Last Known Good" configuration.
