Hello All,
I am having a particularly difficult time in getting XP Professional to properly load the drivers for a Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! Value sound card. This is being attempted on an older PC I use to experiment with. The PC has a P][400 with 256MB SDRAM, Geforce2 MX400 (AGP, 32MB) and also an older ATI All in Wonder Pro (PCI, 8MB), and 3COM network card (3C509B-TX, 10/100) and nothing else.
I put this box together to drive an older Zenith 25" television (using the F-connection {coax}) via the ATI card. Last night I got everything instaled but the sound card (I forgot) and even both video cards worked together (tested by connecting two monitors). I installed the sound card and powered up. It discovered the new hardware and the Device Manager denotes the following (after I downloaded and installed the XP drivers from the Creative website):
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing. (Code 39)
This is shown in the Device Status pane for entries under Sound, video and gaming controllers:
Creative Game Port
Creative SB Live! (WDM)
Microsoft Kernal System Audio Device
Initially, I tried to perform a driver update for the WDM and it 'semed' to be downloading something (I do not know from where, but probably Microsoft), and it completed and prompted to be rebooted, which I allowed. Only problem is that the problem was unchanged upon rebooting.
Anyone got any ideas? Does XP like to have all the cards installed during its original installation (i.e. do I have to reinstall the OS)?
