Hi all,

I just installed XP on my machine last night. It is a Athlon 1.2 + Iwill KK266. After the installation, I didn't hear anything. So I try to watch a video clip but was told that there is no sound hardware!! I thought it was standard driver problem. So I went for the Iwill driver CD. After installed the sound driver (I didn't install any other drivers) and reboot. XP became very unstable and still no sound. Some time I can't even login. I had enough of that and re-installed the whole thing. XP is OK now but I want to consult you XP gurus before I try to get the sound working. So the question is: how do I install Iwill KK266 builtin 4.1 sound for XP?

Hey, I'm not at home, and therefore can't help right away, but I ran into this same issue with my KK266. Do me a quick favor and tell me which port your speakers are plugged into. I'm not being a smarta$$, as I recall for some reason I actually switched ports when I installed XP in order for it to work! I think I had to move them to the top jack, but as I said, I'm not at home right now to check.

What version of XP are you running (Pro or Home, retail or a Beta)? I haven't got my full retail Pro yet, but getting sound with RC2 on my KK266 was no problem at all. Originally I just used the IWill CD to install JUST the sound driver, and that worked great. More recent installs show that letting XP do it's check for updates before installing will net a sound driver for the KK266 audio. Then everything should work 100% with no additional drivers needed.

Did you let it check for updates? If not, do that.

EDIT: if you've just got stereo speakers, they're supposed to be plugged into the top (green) jack, regardless of your OS...

Which drive did you use? I am suspecting that the Iwill installer (which got auto-run by xp) is for 98.

I run corp version. I checked out the KK266 faq and fond some new driver. will try that later.

For what it's worth, my Iwill KK266 NEVER had working sound, no matter what OS I used. I always wound up with only one channel of audio. I tried all the audio output jacks on the MB, re-installing drivers, etc.

Eventually, I replaced it with a Acoustic Edge soundcard on closeout at Best Buy for $49. That works like a charm in XP :)

As I recall, I also went to CMedia's page and downloaded the newest drivers for this specific chip, as well.

Thanks guys. Problem solved after I applied the latest driver for the chip.

Nelmaster: There is a option dialogue when you start the driver installer, where you can specify what kind of speaker configuration you intend to use. Maybe that's why you had to do that.
