XP keeps self rebooting after splash screen....HELP!

MX2

Lifer
Turn on the PC, boots all the way through the Windows splash screen....blue screens a physical memory dump, restarts.

The only thing that was done differently (as opposed to any other day) is that I left a Sandisk USB U3 thumbdrive plugged in upon first trying to turn it on this morning. Once I noticed that, I figured the PC was trying to boot the thumbdrive, so I unplugged it and tried again...no luck. PC still self reboots after the Windows splash screen.

Boot the system in safe mode using the f8 after bios screen and see if it goes all the way to windows if so, it could be a bad hardware install or bad driver, in anycase if it does boot in safe mode un plug the usb flash card reader you istalled and see if it works!

Nope, that deosnt work either. Like I said the only thing that was different this morning was that I mistakenly left the thumbdrive in. I did not make any hardware or software changes within the machine or OS last night.

Do you have a digital multimeter that you can hook up to monitor the power rails? It's possible that your voltages have dropped and are causing instability. It's also possible that another component has failed. Also check the simple things like hsf fan, chipset fan or any other failure that would cause it to overheat and lock up.
