XP just shuts down???

I've been using Win XP professional for about a week. A few days ago I noticed that it would just shut down for no reason. For example, I was typing up an essay, then the screen turned black without notice (the monitor light blinked yellow) and the HD light was solid red and the green power light was solid too....WTF. Sometimes it happens to me on an hourly basis. One time I felt my computer on in the morning and when I came home hours later, the monitor was black and the green power light was flashing...Anyone else had this problem. I'm using all the latest drivers, bios, and via 4-in-1s.
