XP - It is now safe to shut down the blah blah blah

I just installed XP on my dummy system and my regular comp. On one of the systems, when i go to shut down it gives me that old school "it is now safe to shut down..." screen so i have to manually do the power button. Is there a way around this?

I have disabled it on my comp but don't remeber where teh switch is

Turn on APM, open display properties, click screen savers tab, click the power button then click APM tab and turn it on

On the Power settings under control panel or screensaver, I have 4 tabs (Power Schemes, Advanced, Hibernate, and UPS). There is no APM tab. What should I do to add this feature which I think will allow my computer to restart properly.

What are the options under APM???? I have 2 checkboxes under options for 1) Show icon and 2) Password after standby and then a pulldown box for what to when i press the shutdown button. Is that it???

Under device manager in control panel. Enable "show hidden device" (somewhere in the tool bar). Then you should see Legacy APM device disabled. Enable that and you are set to go. I also have this problem as I forgot to enable ACPI in the BIOS when I installed XP. Oh well at least it's only my test HDD I will sure to set it straight on a good run

went to power in control panel and under APM it was unchecked (for some reason) so i enabled it and evereything went perfect. Thanks alot!

Where do I look for these items????? The only things that I see under system are APCI Fixed Feature Button, ACPI Power Button, MS ACPI-Compliant System. That is all. Should i add new hardware and add a custom APM or something?? I have no option for ADVANCED POWER MANAGEMENT UNDER POWER SETTINGS.
