XP Issues

A friend of mine is running XP with SP2 on his machine. All of a sudden when you click on the IE icon to launch it it brings up the properties for the shortcut instead of launching the program. I have checked it for spyware and viruses and it comes up clean. This is something stupid simple but I can't seem to figure it out. Anything will help out.

In Control Panel, go to Add/Remove Programs and click on Set Program Access and Defaults.

Under Custom, select Internet Explorer as your default web browser, then click OK. This should repair the Internet Explorer icon.

So it acts like you are right-clicking it? I would first check to see if the mouse somehow got configured for left-hand use (Control Panel | Pointing Devices). If it is configured for right-hand use (normal/default) then - only if it is USB - I would unplug the mouse and plug it in again. If it is PS/2 or that doesn't solve the problem, I would reboot.
