I modified a setting in the TweakUI (control panel) that had to do w/ logons I believe.. and now whenever I boot, it skips the welcome screen and goes to a blue screen w/ just Windows XP, and WIndows is starting up...

and it doesn't go anywhere!! Is there some way to go into safe mode or some way to modify the settings?? Please help! Thanks..

Hmmm... maybe i'm missing something, but can't you just hit F8 when you get the OS menu, and go into safemode and remove it.

You could try hitting ctrl alt del twice at start up and enter in admin. mode and change the settings back?
Or you can start the install process and instead of installing do a repair install. (it will give you the option after the first reboot)

Hit F8 while booting and select Last known good configuration. If that doesnt work select safe mode and set tweak UI to the default settings.

Okay.. I went into safe mode and setup my tweak UI settings differently.. but now it just LAGS for a huge amount of time while it says "Loading Personal Settings" ... before it would just instantly go into the desktop!

What do i need to change? My tweak settings are:

Under Logon: only have my user checked for show on welcome screen
AutoLogon: Checkbox is on, user name, domain name = compuer name, password : blank (which it is)

Anyone konw why?

Like I said, I would try entering as the Admin. and then change the settings (Admin settings will over ride any other settings I would think)

<< Time for a formating of that partition. Try XP again when a service pack is out :( >>

You've gotta be kidding me.

Not MS perse - XP. Not even based upon my own experience alone but I've heard so many people who can't get it to work properly that I'm convinced it ain't ready for prime time! Does that have anything to do with Ender's problem? Dunno. I'm just ranting on XP once again :)

So you hate something you've not experienced for yourself?

I've been running it fine since the public betas. I haven't had ANY problems.

Sorry to hear about your problem. My XP Pro is working great, this OS rox in many ways. I have a few quibbles with it, but I am sure they will get addressed.

Okay, i got everything working now.. it was just that the settings in tweak were messed up. I also had to modify the domain settings so the computer would be part of the domain as well since I have win2k server running as well. I logged on - safe mode and fixed things. Thanks anyhow guys!

I meant that I was not basing my hate of XP ONLY on my own experiences. Personally for me it sucked. it was nice and looks like it will be cool in the future but I had quite a multitude of problems and couldn't even suffer through it for a night. I know two other people personally who have tried XP; one guy lasted a week and another guy not quite a week. None of us could get it to work properly compared to Win2k so we're all back to it. Read some of the lengthy XP threads and you'll see there are many people on AT who have tried XP and just had to drop it.

I wish that my hardware worked properly with it, but I don't think all issues are just hardware problems. Once more drivers are out and XP is running with SP1 I look forward to giving it another go.

I know a lot of people who can't get 3.1 working properly.
