XP is driving me nuts!

Have any on of you ever tried to delete folders or files in Win XP and recieve the dreded access denied or this file or folder may be in use by onother program and yet there isn't any program running or the folder should be free to delete and you can delete it file by file or sub-folder by sub-folder but not all at once?

I am betting these all the time and now worse then ever and far worse then with any 9x version. I seems that whenever there is more then one folder layer, I get the access denied error. Then I delete the subfolders one by one and then the main folder and averytihing works fine. This happens every time and it is just rediculously annoying. My favodite feature back in the days of win 3.1 is that it could easily move or delete multiple layers of folders when regulad DOS could not. This remained true until XP which onece aggain seems to be have deevolved to the level of DOS with only one folder layer capability.

Secondly I very often get a file in use error when trying to delete or modify the file. This has been with all windows versions but the files were actualy in use. With XP this error occurs frequently and randomly as there are no running programs to use it. When I first installed XP I played an MP3 and then wanted to change the internal name and artist name while playing. Usualy I get the file in use error but with XP nothing happend. I cosed the file and reopened it to find that the file was fine and was modified. I was so happy, I thought the biggest windows anoyance has finaly dissapeared (that was before the folder delete problem), but my hapiness didn't last as XP got worse and worse to the point were it is now rediculous.

I don't care how or what problems it may cause but I must get rid of these two prompts as I can't stand them anymore. I am looking for a solution on the level of hacking some XP core files and forcebly removing these errors from the system. I don't care about the possible data loss or data corruption I just need to never see these errors aggain.

Please if anybody here knows ay way deep in XP to remove these errors please help me do it.

Thank You

I've had and still have similar problems. Was hoping SP1 would resolve some but nope. I think many of the problems relate to the new Windows Explorer thumbnail previewing system which appears to lock files/folders when accessing the hidden thumbs.db files.

Nothing a reboot can't solve.

(1) Format C: /q

(2) Grab Windows 2000 disk out of the closet

(3) Open CD drive

(4) Stick W2K disk into tray

(5) Reboot....

At least give accurate worthless advice 😉

Kinda hard to format C from within windows. Besides, it would be redundant, because W2K setup will format it again.

I never had and don't have 2000 and I don't want to go to it dew to possible solt functionality. And I don't know if it fixes anything. And if I restart the system then everything except for the multiple layer folder deletion goes away, I just need to get rid of the problems popping up in my working session. And the ability to delete an entire folder at onece would also be a welcome addition.
