im having trouble installing windows xp home from the cd.

I get to setup , it goes through the "setup is looking at your hardware" thing..

but when it tries to send the files from the cd to the hard drive this happens.....

first few files (lets say 8) , get coppied succesfully, then the next file hangs (ie copying asfef.fft stays on the bottom of the screen) then after a few seconds, the screen displays a retry, ignore and exit setup screen. if i choose rety , it does the same , if i choose ignore it coppies a few more files and then does the same thing with a different file.

The problem doesnt occour, for example every 8 files , sometimes more files get copied untill there is a problem file. I pressed ignor on all the file that didnt get copied , and restarted , got windows xp home on screen , but then a critical failure occoured , because of missing files i think..

Please help me. id very very much so appricicate it.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I kept on getting read errors while installing software from any of my optical drives (the software installed properly on another PC). I tried different drives and different IDE cables. I even went so far as RMAing my motherboard (Asus P4C-800e Deluxe) but the problem was still there. The problem ended up being a bad stick of RAM so I bought some new dual channel RAM (replacing both sticks), Geil PC4000 Ultra Platinum, and the problems have gone away.
