XP Installation Loop

I'm installing a new drive, and the XP installation won't advance beyond the "blue screen" phase. It examines my hardware, formats the drive, copies the installation files, and then reboots to continue the installation. But each time I get an error message indicating it can't find the OS and the reboot hangs unless I manually boot from the CD drive, but then the installation starts over from scratch.

Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated!

I think I've seen this before and it turned out to be a faulty drive. Try booting off the CD again and select the 'recovery console' option on the first screen (the 'R' key) and when it gives you a prompt type "DIR C:" and see if it actually copied any files to the drive. In my case the drive was empty. Also try a "CHKDSK C:" to check the drive for errors. In my case, chkdsk would just hang at 75%.

Thanks Gary, will give it a shot. I've also found some posts recommending doing the install with just 1 stick of memory - I'll try anything at this point! Getting hung up on something as simple as an XP install is rather frustrating!
