XP Installation Issues

Hi, I'm having problems getting WinXP Pro to install on a machine of mine. It's an Tbird 900 running on a Soyo K7VTA(KT133 based) with 256MB of Crucial PC133, a GF2 MX400, and a Maxtor 40GB HD. When I attempt to install WinXP, the machine locks up when it reaches "setup is starting windows". I've already pulled all the excess cards, brought all my timings and settings down to their lightest settings, and run MemTest86 on it(it passed the standard test), so it seems to work fine. It's problem is simply that it's locking up on Windows setup. Does anyone have any advice on what to do to make it install?

suggestion #1: get the newest BIOS for your board.

suggestion #2: use only ACPI.

after searching for suggestion #1, I have come to the conclusion that a better board could be purchased instead of trying to get an older chipset (kt133) to work with winXP.

It's actually run WinXP just fine before.😱 I've installed XP on it 3 times on it while I still owned it; RC1, RC2, and Gold. The only thing that's even different at the moment is the CD drive and the HD. I'll give ACPI a shot tomorrow though.

Well, no go on the ACPI issue. I set "PM controlled by APM" to "no" from "yes", which would move it over from APM to ACPI as far as I know. It still locks up. Any other suggestions?

Virge,

I had one heck of a time getting Windows to load - It would miss files, hang upon initial boot, etc. I went to amdmb.com and tried all the recommended settings for my MSI 6380E...nothing worked. Finally, I had some Samsung memory lying around and replaced the Crucial stick I had in the board. Everything loaded perfectly without a hitch and has not crashed since. I did not run the memory test but all the time I didn't think it was the ram. Don't know if this helps, just my experience...
