XP Install To Quickformat or not to?

Okay so a friend and I were arguing today, I got annoyed watching him install XP and choose the normal format method. I asked him why do you want to wait so long for XP to format the drive, it really doesn't make a difference!

He said he has experienced probems when he does a re-install of XP on systems and chooses the quickformat mode.

What is your guys take?
(did a search on the forum didn't see anything)

All normal format does is check the drive for errors after it does the quick format. No reason to do quick format unless you dont trust the drive (or so I've been told).

Yup. If it's a brand new drive, I'll use normal (just to make sure all sectors are ok).

Otherwise, quick format is just fine.
