Xp install question....

Don't know if this has been posted or not, but I haven't read anything about it either.

Anyways, when you do a fresh install of Xp is it suppose to be that only the Recycle Bin icon shows on the desktop?? And all other icons you would normally find on it (*My Computer, Network Places, etc..*) are now in the new start menu??
