XP install problem....

Ok so i'm attempting to do a clean install of XP on my system which is a athlon 1300 with a msi geforce 3ti200. Everything is going fine right up until it finishes loading drivers and says "starting windows" and fades off into a black screen never to return. Now I can put another video card in and install XP just fine but my problem is that i won't always have an extra video card lying around and I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced this or had any idea what may be causing this problem or what I may be doing wrong?

I had a problem similar to that with my xp pro install. for some reason, sometimes it doesn't install the drivers for my radeon ve (i've installed a couple of times already.) have you tried going into safe mode and installing the drivers for the card from there?

I'm assuming that before you did the clean install, your video card was working properly. When you did the install, did XP show you anything about your video card being incompatible with XP?

i never make it that far, when i say "starting windows" im talking about maybe 5 minutes into the installation right after windows load various drivers...

yup it was working fine. i took my herc geforce 2 pro out of my second system to complete the installation then put the geforce 3 back in afterwards. the card will install windows 2k fine but XP is a no go..
