XP install problem

I was trying to install Windows XP for my new system. Everytime, it hangs during the reboot phrase after formatting the hard drive and copying the files. Safemode will hang after mup.sys is loaded. I tried to install win2k, same thing happens. However, win98 installed fine. Anyone has some good suggestions?

System info:
Shuttle AN35 ultra
amd mobile 2500+
512 Mb PNY 2700(spectek chips)
ati 9200 LE by a third party
