XP install freezes with 1 minute remaining

Trying to do a clean install of XP on my Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop. I'm not using the Dell XP Home CD, but rather a retail XP Pro CD. The install freezes with '1 minute remaining' every time I try to install it. I've tried everything I can think of, perhaps someone has had this happen to them ?
