XP in Corporate Environment - help and suggestions please

I'm preparing for a Rollout of about 75 XP Pro machines in a Netware 5.1 environment. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. So far I have 2 concerns. Login scripts seem to stall for about 20-30 seconds when loading either Client Trust or NAL Explorer and how do I get the Windows login screen to stop prompting for a password after users have authenticated with the Novell client? I'm currently using Novell client 4.83.

Thanks.

Actually we use ZENWorks imaging and are quite happy with it.

Any OS specific issues or suggestions? Or solutions to the problems I stated before?

Thanks.

reicher,

Sorry, I guess I didn't fully read your question. Your problems seem to be with the Novell client and I don't know squat about Novell. Isn't there a checkbox on Novell's login screen to use the same credentials to authenticate to Windows?

There is an option to change the Windows password to the same thing at the Novell password, but I've got about 2500 users (school) that login at differnt machines all day long and I'd rather not have to setup all of those accounts on the XP machines.

I'm sure there is a way around it, I'm just very new to the XP world and haven't found it yet.

Thanks for the help.

Think its the third tab on the novell login screen, you can change the windows login to reflect the novell login, but you might need a user account on that PC. Also, I do get that 20-30 second stall also, and it seems to happen on all the win 2k machines.

I'm only a user, not a network admin. But my network admin didn't like me and is a real pain in the rear (so I never bothered to find out why it happened.)

I've seen the same problems with win2k. I called Novell and they said its a bug with the MS login procedure and so I called MS and they said its a bug with the novell client. This was about 5 weeks ago

Pretty much I think Ur going to have to deal with it, they are in the finger pointing stage of fixing it.

If U solve it please let us know, I just have too many other things to worry about.

Abzstrak:

Any ideas how to get rid of the Windows login?

I'll let you know if I get the login stall problem figured out.

Thanks.

Have you tried deleting the "Client for Microsoft Networks" and just use the "Novell client" on its own?

Sound slike you might be getting sticky profiles on your workstations...check for that first.
Secondly the sync feature works like a charm, and if you are seeing a 30 second delay in your logon script..then check your logon script, not the client.
I have no delay like that on 2k or XP.

Oh yeah...try setting the preffered server to your local server and see if it helpls with the logon time.
Also turn off "Remote file caching" it will help out some.

The script works fine on win98. It just maps some drives launches client trust and nal explorer.
Synch works fine, but I don't want to have to setup accounts for all 2500 of my users.
The prefered server makes do differnce.
What is a sticky profile?
Where do I turn off remote file caching?

Thanks.
