I used ICS with 3 computers in 98se and it worked fine.

Built 3 new computers (upgraded) to P4 2.66 on P4PE's
with XP and get bandwith starved on one machine now.
It starts a download at 63 and trails off to 8, sometimes
right on down to connection loss due to time out. Geez! :frown:
The "server" and second machine have great performance
with no noticeable problems. I figure it has to be a setting
I'm overlooking. Perhaps DoS, didn't have it in 98se and
everthing was fine. I don't have Netbuoi installed either.
Could that be a problem?

I do have a router, but I'm too lazy to set it up as I'm soon
(next few months) to be switched from ATT to Comcast which
I'm sure will be another suck experience. heheh........

I did the SpeedGuide tweaks and it didn't make a difference.
Installed the XP slow program patch and no dice there either.

Any help would be, Helpful. :p

Thanks.

It may not be an XP setting. Double check the cable going to the slow PC, as well as the nic card. I had one PC via shared network (it was my fastest PC too) that was getting 4 to 6 KB a second download, even slower than dialup. Surfing the net was very painful on it. Other slower PCs on the home network where getting much better speeds.

It turned out that the network cable was bad. Fixed the cable problem and now I get nearly 300kb a sec downloads on fast servers!

So I definitely recommend double checking the nic card and network cable to at least eliminate those possibilities.

You can use the ping utility to check for packet loss. Also, check the speed of file transfer between the various systems on your local area network. That might help you isolate the problem if it is a bad cable or NIC as Ray has suggested.
