I have an internal 12-1 memory card reader and another usb reader that work on other xp home machines but will not work with one machine I need it to. Windows will not recognize it. How do I go about fixing this, I'm lost without plug-n-play.

Have you checked device manager to see if there's a problem with the USB drivers? IS SP1 installed on that machine?

Well it appears most of the usb drivers in my windows/system32 folder were gone. I copied them from my computer where the reader works into the non working computers's folder. This computer was reading the "usb mass storage" device as a DMHS1B Rev 5 DFU adapter whatever the hell that is, so I uninstalled it, updated the driver to usb mass storage and all is well. Thanks.

Wonder why all those drivers weren't there?
