xp home vs. xp mce

Hi Ace, welcome to Anandtech forums.

I don't want this to come off as rude, but try to use the search function. More information than you could ever dream of is there.

To shortly answer your question, no, they will perform identical. MCE is an add-on application for TV Tuners and the like. If you don't plan on using your PC for a Media center, just stick with Home.

And before you ask Pro performs the same too. They are all the same OS with a few different features.

thanks and i definetly dont take it as rude...
i used the search function for research on the 7900gt ko (people are all over that topic)
hate to say it but i was kind of lazy on this one. Thanx for the post.

i haven't ever tried installing games on xp media ceneter but i use it alot via my xbox 360 which has an MCE extention which makes life easier on recording tv shows and stream videos on tv. But i make sure game work on XP mce unless you plan not to play games. MCE is better choice but just make sure that games will work on it without a problem.

Games work the same.

I slightly disagree with saying they perform the same. MCE is a bit more bloated than Home. So, if they are being run on a lower end system, Home would run better.

Windows XP MCE has both the host and client features of Remote Desktop. Home only has the client. MCE doesn't natively log into a domain. But, a BANANA can fix that. 🙂
