Is there any real advantage to XP pro? I already have XP Home and have considered using the XP Uprade to get pro. I only have one PC its used for home use only.

Would it be a wise to choice to upgrade to Pro?

Microsoft's site describes the major points. You also have access to some more advanced programs like the Group Policy Editor in pro. There are some additional NTFS abilities open to you, like EFS, and full NTFS permissions will become available. XP Pro is also essential if you are in a large network setting. But most home users are content with XP HOME, and professional is somewhat expensive.

The only thing I miss on my laptop with Home is the ability to manually assign permissions to objects for ecah user.

I have never noticed anything worth extra money in Pro versus Home, and I don't think anyone that didn't need special "administration" dodads would. Most of the adminstration wingdings are semi-incomprehensible to civiliians and more of an additional pain, when used, rather than a value to a single user with a single computer.

For example?

If you aren't a power user that is a tweakaholic, than you probably won't need Pro. Oh yeah, Pro can support 2 processors and additional system resources. Remote Desktop is incredibly useful if you travel a lot. A lot of commands like "net" and "shutdown" have less abilities in Home, although most of these capabilities are meant for network administrators.

I absolutely, under no circumstances, will run Home unless I absolutely have to. Security (and thus stability) is much tighter in Pro. When I set up my mom's system, I specifically chose Pro and limited permissions so errant clicks on the web (for example) wouldn't wreck the system. It's been running great for 2 years.
