xp home setup freezes on loading screen

I'm doing a clean installation booting from the disc. I've tried both quick and full formats before starting the setup. After it copies the installation files and restarts, the progress bar freezes on the Windows splash screen. I've let it sit for at least 10 minutes like this and it never does anything further.

There was a similar problem on the previous machine where it would either fail to copy or have to retry copying a bunch of files, then get to the background with a mouse pointer before it would freeze. I'm not sure if the issues are related (the previous machine was a 7-year-old wreck) but the only common component is the hard drive.

Has anyone had this issue before?

I'm not sure what system you are working on. But it sounds like ram or psu problem. Troubleshoot by doing the following:
1. Remove all unnecessary add in cards.
2. Make sure you have enough rams or even better use one stick of ram that is at least 500MB or 1GB.
3. Set the bios to dafault setting and try re-installing again.

Keep us posted.
