XP Home/Pro vs XP MCE

mce is basically pro with access to domains hidden, home is probably fine but if you are going to be on a network (including a college network) pro might be needed or at least helpful. Pro also has a bunch of extra features (remote desktop...).

Can you explain "with access to domains hidden" to the layman (or actually the idiot for that matter)?

I'd like to compare XP Pro to Media Center 2005.

Windows Server Domain It's basically an alternative to workgroups. It's not something you're likely to need. The main difference between XP Pro and MCE is that access to domains and the ability to save passwords on password-protected shares are "hidden", but you can re-enable them through registry hacks.

That, and XP MCE comes with the Media Center 2005 application.

Plus the fact that it's 30 dollars cheaper it's pretty much a no-brainer. 🙂

I already have a legit copy of XP Pro so is it possible to modify XP Pro to have the same kind of color scheme and desktop as MCE? I like the look of MCE but I don't have the money right now to buy a legit copy (lol).
