XP Home Networking issues

I know this has probably been asked a million times, but I could not find anything in the searches.

I just bought a new computer (Dell E310) I still have my old computer connected to the network along with my roommates. I got on my roommates computer and can see my all three computers there, however I can not access my new computer. There is a lot of stuff I want to get off my computer and I can not see anything from my new computer. I tried everything I could think of and I still cant get out. Does anyone have a step by step sure fire way to let me on my home network?

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what is allowed to be shared.

make sure you give the HD, on your new box, share permission!
