I just recieved this from a co-worker of mine. Any ideas or anything we are overlooking here?

============

There are two XP Home machines on the network at the Architecture firm on the Plaza that aren't browsing the rest of the network correctly.
They can access the internet just fine, and they can ping the other machines by IP, but when you try to access another machine in the office by the computer name, they can't find machine you are trying to access.

Also, when you try to browse the workgroup through the network neighborhood, an error message is displayed with the following text:

"Workgroup Name is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource."

According to the MS knowledgebase, all computers on the network must have NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled and the computer browser service must be started. I made sure this was true on all the computers, but the problem still persists. Does anyone know of a fix?

Yep, sure do! :D Install the NETBEUI protocol on all of the machines, I'm betting this problem will be history right after that.

If you look in the event logs, you'll see at least one of the computers with lots of errors about master browser elections. This is the screwy Microsoft name resolution scheme failing. :(

You can get the files for NETBEUI for XP off the CD in the VALUEADD directory, or this direct download: http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/xp_netbeui.zip
