hi, i know the option is in xp somewhere as i had this problem a year ago but can't find it now. my machine (hooked into cable modem) restarts itself whenever i shut it down.

i know that somewhere there is an option to restart automatically if the machine detects a lan connection and that option is checked 'yes' for some reason now that i've gotten my machine back from getting its fourth motherboard installed (let's not talk about how i feel about compaq machines today!!). i tried to find this option in control panel last night but couldn't, anyone care to point me in the proper direction?

thanks.

ok, i admit i'm dense but i've searched everywhere and at least within the control panel can't find power management. there is a tab for power options but there is no 'wake on lan' there or anywhere else i've tried. i even enlisted my network professional buddy and we searched together but couldn't find it.

anyone else want to help me find 'wake on lan' in windows xp?

It's also a setting in your NIC properties if it supports it. But its probably easier to just disable it in your BIOS.
