Ok, I installed a new MB on monday afternoon (Shuttle A35N Ultra) along with a new XP2600+. The memory that was in it was PC2100 (I'd intended it to run slower than 2600 speeds until I could upgrade the memory as well). When I finished, I tried to boot up. BSoD. Of course, XP reboots when it crashes (I'd forgotten to turn off that "feature"), so I can't tell what it's crashing on.
Trying to boot into Safe Mode produces the same thing. I checked the BIOS settings, and the memory speed was set to 100Mhz, so I tried to move the stick of RAM (I'd run into this problem before). Still crashing.
I went out and bought a 512 stick of PC2700 RAM, and tried to install it in DIMM slot 0. I've since tried to move it to all 3 slots, but can't get any farther.
So here's where I stand: the PC will load in Safe mode up to the point where it loads past MUP.SYS (it's the last item loaded). Trying to boot into Windows normally just gets you the progress bar, then it hangs. I've tried to disable MUP from the recovery console, but it's still not loading. Running CHKDSK shows that the disk is ok.
Aside from reinstalling Windows, are there any other ideas?
