Just installed xp service pack 2 on the home edition for my cousin. It stopped and got an erron in the middle of the installation so we cancelled it. Now when we reboot we get the blue screen. Memory and hard drive is good .

Put in the original XP CD and boot from it.

Skip the Console Repair get to the screen for new install.

When it detects that there is already an XP install on the HD it will give you a chance to press R for repair.

Repair it.

Repair takes about 40 minutes but at the end you would have fresh install with all the Data and the applications still there.

When it is working look at the StartUp and disable any thing that is Not needed for basic operation, Reboot and then try to apply again the sp2.
