XP having trouble installing Microsoft programs

Last night I decided to head over to windows updater to see if there was anything I was missing. I had just done a fresh install of XP a few days ago so there was "only" one critical update I needed to install. So I picked that one and some other things as well. Well everything d/l fine but when the windows installer attempted to install the programs I started to get error messages. The error was something along the lines of "This program is not an XP authorized product" and the installation quit but reported that everything was installed correctly. Later when CoD tried to install DirectX 9, I got the same message but CoD ran fine.

Does anyone know what this means?

You can post the KBxyz.LOG file that's associated with that update; that would help a lot. Figure out what the update's number is (like KB827102) and then look in c:\windows for that file (for example, KB827102.LOG) and then paste it in here (or just the first and the last dozen lines or so. My guess is that it doesn't like your PID.
