xp hang at boot

My laptop pauses (with no HD activity) just after the blue windows xp screen finishes. My desktop wallpaper comes up, and sits for 60-70 seconds, with no icons, taskbar, etc. No HD activity. I assume it's network related....but don't know what. No other pc's on the network behave like this. No virusus, adware, etc present. Other than the long boot, the system works fine. Thanks for any help. I'll probably pout this up in OS too, because I'm not sure which group is appropriate. Thanks...

Have you talked to SysAdmin about your problem? Can you boot in Safe Mode and look at Event Viewer to see if Windows reports any probs? How do you know there's no virus/adware present?

Possibly, your system is grabbing patches/AV updates from the parent servers on your network. Have you let it sit for a few minutes?

To me, it sounds like it's trying to update itself and you're being impatient.

It's my home network...
It's been behaving like this for weeks, possibly months.
I have Norton AV, and I've run spybot, ad-aware, etc.
It doesn't grab popups, or have any other issues. Just the boot hang.
