I want to have some shared folders that should require that the remote user (in a workgroup) logon with an user account I have created for this purpose. I want them to get a logon window like if the guest account is disabled.

If you type \\mycomputername from the remote computer when the guest account is enabled, it will access my computer and show the shared folders as normal. And I want it to be so, but the users I give the account and password to get access to some folders with other share permissions (guest denied).

I start, I have the Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts Local security policy set to Classic - local users authenticate as themselves. I think it do like in win 2000, because in XP by default if you for example try to access \\mycomputer\c$, you can't change the username (it stands guest), the username textbox is disabled.

I know about that you can make special shares in "shared folders" in computer managment that require administrator priviliges to access, but that only change the share permissions, but I don't want to use administrators account to access these folders I share. And I have found out that if a $ character is put to the end of the sharename, it's invisible in the window if you type \\mycomputer on the remote computer.

I have no other XP/2000 computer in my home network but I don't think I will get a username and password box if I type \\mycomputer\myhiddenshare$ for a folder that has sharepermissions for an other user than guest.

Hope I have explained my question well, but please ask for more details and info.
