XP folder Options

I'm having issues with two things in XP and using folders. Hopefully someone here will be able to help me out.

1. When I go to control panel and folder options, the option to make every folder like the one I am viewing is always grayed out so it is unable to click it, even if i change the view while the option menu is open.

2. I just installed a new hard drive, in addition to the one i currently have. Everything is working fine, except i have noticed when I am going through my folders with mp3's in them, I hit the 'play all' button and a warning comes up saying 'Unable to find a playable file' Mp3's are the only files in the folder, and I have tried to customize the folder with every option to see if it would work, and still it won't work. I have the mp3's on the new Harddrive (D), but I brought a folder over to C (where XP is) and it doesn't work there either. It used to all work fine until just a few days ago when I put the new harddrive in.

anyone have any ideas?

I just tried the Apply to all Folders and on mine is grayed out too. What you need to do is go open Explorer and go to a folder that you want to make the rest of them like. Open it up and go to Tools...Folder Options....It shouldn't be grayed out then. It's grayed out in the Control Panel cause you don't have a folder open at that time.

Now for your second problem, check the permissions on that folder and make sure they are set correctly.

part 1 solved. thanks a lot.

part 2..what do you mean by permissions? they are read only, i tried changing that. Also, when I'm in the main folder (i have a music folder, and inside are all subfolders of each artist), i used to be able to highlight on the folder of an artist and the option to 'play all' would be there, now that doesn't even show up. I've customized the folder to be for music files, and i've customized the artitst's folder to be works of one artist. When I'm inside the artist's folder the 'play all' option is still there, but like before it does not work.

Hmmm I'm not sure. I haven't played around with that part of XP. I'll try and fool around with it and see if I can figure anything out.

thanks for looking, i really appreciate it. i'm confused by it all as i didn't change any settings, rather just added another HD, and this option wont work on either now.
