I cant get XP to recognize my canon zr 20 DV via firewire, XP doesnt autodect. anyone have any insight on this, whether is an OS problem or peripheral problem, can someone let me know? forgot to mention this is on a new Toshiba Satellite laptop w/ firewire. thanks.

When you plug in the camcorder and turn it on, do you get the "boop-bing" that indicates XP found a new device?

Check in Device Manager and see if any devices have a yellow exclamation point next to 'em.

nothing shows up on the device manager nor does it recognize when i plug it to the computer and turn it on. the firewire is recognize by XP and it installed it with a TI driver (i think, i might need to double check again) any clues?

thanks for the reply.

First, check in device manager that the firewire card is working properly. If it's not, of course nothing you plug into it will work.

If the firewire port is built into the laptop, go into the BIOS and make sure the port is turned on in there. If the hardware doesn't show itself to the OS, it won't work.
