Did a search but couldn't find an answer. Scenario: 11 xp pro boxes, all ntfs and one w98 box, fat32. Need to have one of the xp boxes and the w98 box share files, my docs on both actually. I have an account on the xp box to match the login of the w98 box. When I enable sharing on the xp box (it's a restricted user account) I don't get a security tab, just general, sharing, and customize, I don't get it when loged in as admin either. I can't enable allow users to change my files either, because it then asks for a password that I can't find out what it is. The problem is when the w98 box can see the files, all the other xp boxes can too and that isn't what is wanted. Thanks for any help.

All I've found since posting is to go to windows explorer and go to edit, folder options and turn off simple file sharing which should turn on the file security and ntfs permissions maybe, I'll be trying it tomorrow, and I'll post back with how it goes.

Bingo. Turn off simple filesharing, and you'll have a much wider range of control over who gets to access the files.

Turned it off and there were the settings I was looking for. Next question is, do I need to add an account for every user on the network to the xp box sharing so I can then deny them access? I can't do a deny everyone since then the user I want to allow can't access.

Create Access Control List and give access or deny anyone you like This should help
