My home network has 4 computers, 1 XP Pro, 1 XP Home, 1 Win2k, and 1 98. I can't get file sharing to work on the XP Pro machine. On the XP Home machine, I went to share a folder, it asked if I wanted to enable simple file sharing, I said yes and it works. All the computers on the network can get to that XP shared folder. I can't get file sharing to work on the XP Pro computer. It doesn't prompt me to enable simple file sharing, but when I go into the sharing tab, I check both the boxes but it still doesn't work. It still has the simple file sharing view. I change to the regular sharing view and add the Everyone group and it still doesn't work. The other computers get an error message saying something along the lines of them not having access to the computer or not being able to be authenticated. All the computers are in the same workgroup and the built in firewall is off. Any ideas?

Are you getting error 31?

Make sure your not using blank passwords.

Also make sure that whatever username & pass your using there is an account for on that WinXP Pro computer.

Give access to all users on the network. That will allow access to all you files on the pro machine.

pretty sure U need to enable the guest account too for the 9x clients.

U can also, although the security of this is more than questionable, enable the guest account and give it admin rights.... no need for passwords then.
