XP Explorer loses folder settings - Details view switches to Icons

WinXP Pro SP1

I prefer seeing almost everything in "Detail" settings in XP Explorer. However, Explorer randomly switches to "Icon" view.

This tends to happen to my "C" drive view, and some of my other folders. I guess someone at Microsoft really hates Duran Duran, because that folder is almost always the one affected. Even when I switch the view back to "Details," Explorer tends to change the view back to "Icon". This does not happen to all my folders, just a few of them. This does not happen all the time, just randomly.

In addition, I prefer to see the Control panel in "Icon view." Sometimes this folder resets to "Details" view.

This all happens even though I do NOT click on: Tools/Folder options/View/Apply to all folders.

As always, my antivirus (AVG) finds nothing.

Help, please?

Do you have "remember each folder's view settings" checked in your tools>folder options for your file explorer?

Ok, this is really weird. Right now, I'm using WinXP.

I just remembered that when I was using Win98SE, I had the same problem. here

Since no one else seems to have this problem, my best guess is that I'm installing some program that randomly changes my settings for some odd reason. Anyone have any better ideas?

I have this issue as well, especially with networked drives, but also with various other drives. Especially with my MP3 folders. Pretty annyoing to change all them back when XP loses settings...

I read somewhere this was a known/somewhat common issue with XP and am trying to find where I saw it so I can fix it. Initially I thought SP1 was going to fix it, but I guess not.

I have this issue too, and it drives me berzerk. I've posted about this dozens of times in multiple forums and no one has come up with a fix yet. This is my biggest gripe with WinXP.

I found this recently at Tweak XP. I don't know if it works.

Restore Registry Database for each Folder's View Settings

For some unknown reason, this database may however become corrupted from time to time (this is not a new problem in Windows). If this happens, you can?t anymore save the specific settings of each Explorer?s folder : each Explorer?s window will always open with the default size and columns settings, and at a random position on the screen

I don't have quite the same problem, since only SOME of my settings get "lost." Also, I can change the settings back to the way I prefer, and most of the time it works, but not always.

However, I may try this tweak anyway if I get desparate, so thanks RVN!

After a month of proper functioning, I am getting the same problem again. I will try the "fix" again to see if that works.
