It turned out to be the monitor - no replies necessary
I am troubleshooting a problem for a friend, long distance so this isn't easy.
When they boot up Win XP Pro they get the message "Out of scan range resolution > XGA". I assume it is a video error. It will boot into safe mode but they cannot adjust the video settings in the safe mode.
When they try to boot normally, after that message the screen goes blank and they have to shut down.
We have unplugged and re-plugged most cables and electrical plugs with no change.
Any ideas what this might be? I am hoping it's something we can fix over the phone and not a bad video card or something like that.
