XP error 6 and 50 when trying to dial-up

When trying to establish a dial-up connection I get either an error 6 (Handle is Invalid) or error 50 (All Devices connected), and also one saying "Network request is unsupported by network" can't remember the number for that one. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the modem, still same error. I have checked all the options for the connection as well as for networking all without any help. I have tried a few different ISP accounts and they all get the same errors. I have searched the MS knowledge base and can't find any mention of any of these errors. That machine is running XP Home. Anyone have any ideas?
