I just finished a clean install of XP Pro on a ECS K7S5A board. The driver disk for the mobo states that it has no XP drivers on it. It appears to me that XP has drivers built in for the Sis 735 chipset. Can someone please confirm this for me? My previous install was 98se & upgraded to XP. I do not want to go through that hassle if I do not have to.

SiS chipset drivers unsurprisingly are at www.sis.com. This covers AGP, LAN and stereo sound unit, while the drivers for the 4-channel sound version of the board and the AMR modem card are at www.ecs.com.tw

Actually, the MB drivers that XP comes with are just fine for that board. The only one you really need is the onboard sound, if you are using it. Other than that you should be good to go.

:) The other way to do this is to simply run Windows Update. Microsoft generally keeps their SIS drivers up to date. I recently did this for my dad's comp and update did have all the SIS drivers needed.

Make sure your AGP bus is enabled. Get the AGP VXD driver from Sis. If your onboard audio is working, you will not need any further drivers.

For Sis boards, it is only the AGP VXD that you need

Thanks everyone. I have a seperate soundcard in it so sound drivers are not important. I'll check on the AGP VXD driver.

From the FAQ previously pointed to:
"What drivers should I install for Windows XP?
You don't need to install any extra drivers. Although AGP 1.07 contains some drivers for Windows XP, the default drivers give better performance. However you do need to run SISIDE.EXE to make sure that all of the drives are in the correct DMA mode. Siside.exe does not produce any output when executed. Be aware that It's not enough to set "DMA if Available" in the device manager, you need to use the utility.

I'd consider this before installing the AGP driver. Just a couple of cents worth.
