XP drive slaved to Win7 - access rights?

I have a system that used to run XP and had a few applications installed: Vuze, FireFox, a few more.

I decided to try 7, and wanted to recreate my work environment by installing the same programs and configuring to similar settings. So I put in a new system drive, and left the XP drive as slave.

Now I can't access my user profile on the XP drive from within 7. I have the same user name and password, that did not help.

I guess I could grab access rights / ownership on the XP drive. However, I'm afraid that would make the XP drive no longer bootable, and I want to be able to go back.
Piecemeal I managed by booting from a Linux live CD and copying bits of data from the XP drive's user hive to a public place on the 7 drive. However, that is not convenient.

Is there a way to access user files on the XP drive without changing its permissions? Some way to gain access with no damage?
I know I could do it in XP if I install a system drive as a slave. The booting system could access everything the same user name had on any drive.

Help? Suggestions? Flames?

hmm. I did the same thing, and Windows 7 just asked me if I wanted to see the files and I said yes and it gained acces. The XP drive still worked fine aftwards when I booted from it.
Is your XP Pro and Windows 7 Home edition?
