I have a PC, with a harddrive, and another PC, and I have drives mapped over the network. Well, I plugged in a USB HD, and Windows assigned the SAME DRIVE LETTER (in disk management) to the USB HD, as I had been using for my permanent network drive mapping.

Why does Windows do this? And will this be fixed in SP3?

you mean when you change the drive letter it reverts back ?
I'm generally careful about drive letters and have not notice a bug although it would be nice if it asked first but if it says in the registry that drive is going to have a certain drive letter that's what it's going to be until changed. I know some mount programs ask what drive letter want to use but usb drives don't ask but you can change them, also plugging in to a different USB port will be seen as a different device so if you are in the habbit of doing that then you need to change the drive letter for each connection.
