XP dont like my Mag CD's ???

Just made a clean install of XP Pro, everything working great except for one wierd problem thats really starting to bug me.

Every time I put in a cover disk from one of the Computer Mags I subscribe to (Maximum PC & PC Gamer), the Autoplay appears to start, and then nothing......there will be an icon in the task bar for the disks .exe/browser programme, but it wont open.

If I also Explore the CD in question and try to start/Install any of the programmes on the disk from Explorer (ie. Americas Army), the Hard Disk activity light comes on and the programme seems to freeze up....normally have to end up re-booting.

Note that this happens now with all of my Magazine CD's......All of my other retail Game CD's and App's work OK.

Have tried the same CD player in another (Win Me) machine and it works just fine....and all of the Coverdisks work as well !!!

Anyone come accross this problem before, or know how to fix it ???

Does the same thing for me too..What I do is close out the MaximumPC.exe, explore the cd, double-click on the Flash "maxPC.exe" icon and away you go..Pain in the butt, but it works.

Did what you suggested....used Explore on my CD, then clicked on the "Flash" icon for the .exe programme......Disk browser programme loaded, but when I try to Install some of the Demos, some of them will Install OK, while others (ie. Americas Army) either wont Install, or take ages with a lot of Hard Disk activity before will start to Install (ie. is realllllyyyy slow) ????

I Still dont know whats causing this behaviour ????

As a last resort..If an install fails when trying to install from the flash program, I will go back to exploring the cd via windows explorer, find the file of what utility,game, or .exe I want, then copy the program to mydocuments. Then execute the program from there(off the hard drive). While I love the magazines to death, I find that their cds' are not allways up to decent spec and have had a number of problems trying to install games and such.
