It seems that IPSec is having a problem. This problem is reproduceable. When fresh boot my xp, no matter how many times you connect to internet, xp has no problem at all. I am connecting to my ISP using a USR V.90 modem (56k).

After standby, the first time you connect to internet is still ok. But once you want to connect the second time after standby, dns error will happen. My mail client report that it is unable to resolve dns. Naviscope return a page saying that dns is having error. If naviscope is off, IE will say that the page cannot be loaded. For all subsequent online, no matter how many times you reconnect, you still can't do anything online. All program including icq report that they can't online due to dns error.

This dns error happens, even for those sites that I previously visited, such as yahoo. Windows or IE supposed to cache the resolved ip, so there is no need to resolve ip again. But all program still report dns error.

I checked the event log, it seems that IPSec is having problem. Below is the detail:

Event Category: None
Event ID: 7023
Date: 16-Mar-03
Time: 1:01:44 AM
User: N/A
Computer: DOMINOPRO733
Description:
The IPSEC Services service terminated with the following error:
The attempted operation is not supported for the type of object referenced.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

When I go to help and support, this is what I get:

Event ID: 7023
Source: Service Control Manager
Component: System Event Log
Symbolic Name: EVENT_SERVICE_EXIT_FAILED
Message: The %1 service terminated with the following error:
%2

This IPSec error happens a lot in my event log and the time it occurs is right after I make the second times internet connection after standby.

Currently, I have to restart the machine to solve this problem. FYI, I am using dunno S1 or S3 standby state. I think is S3 state but I am very sure that the standby state I use require the least amount of electric. When I standby, only ram & keyboard got power, all other stuff including all fans and hdd is off.

This only happens in my latest xp installation. It didn't happen in the past. Any idea on what this error mean and how to solve it? Any reply and input is appreciated. Thanks.

IPsec is to encrypt traffic between IPSec-aware hosts. It would be unusual in a home setting.

If the devices your are talking to cannot use IPsec, then no communication happens.

You probably just need to do a NIC properties, advanced, and uncheck the use IPSec box.

FWIW
