XP desktop

I never change my resolution, so what gives? I have quite a lot of icons on the desktop. Some I use very frequently, others I don't use at all. Lately, I look for an icon where I left it and it's not there! :| WTH... It happened twice today. I have a solution I always use for crowded desktop, being a shortcut to the desktop ON the desktop. Opening that I can search for an item or if it's recent (usually the case), order by Modified date. However, this is getting ridiculous. What would cause my icons to move??? This is my laptop using XP Pro. I rarely shut down the machine, just put it in suspend.

On the desktop background, Right Click, Arrange Icons By, Lock Web Items On Desktop, Align To Grid, Show Desktop Items

Also Start, Properties, Taskbar, uncheck the "Hide Inactive Icons"

And also check: Right Click on Desktop, Properties, Desktop, Customize .. be sure Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard is NOT Checked

I tried this and they still 'move' when the resolution changes.

Meaning icons on the right of the screen align themselves to the left of the screen as the resolution size shrinks.

Its because XP is so old, it has gotten Alzheimer's, therefore forget where theyre supposed to be. Assisted suicide is the only option.

Do you game? That change of resolution sometimes messes my icons up.

I don't game, I never change my resolution. Never used to have that problem on that machine either. It just started happening AFAIK a few days ago. 😕

I recently started having the same trouble, mainly when undocking. My screen resolution momentarily changes, and changes back to full resolution. It is driving me crazy also. I tried disabling the Intel Display Service, but then my 2nd monitor refuses to automatically enable when I am docked. I have also chalked this up to "Alzheimers".. I am too lazy to keep having to enable the 2nd monitor myself so I live with it! 😉
