Have created a 3gig partition on a 40 gig drive. C:/ for the OS and D:/ for data games etc.

Installed XP as an operateing system and ghosted it for easy restoration.

When you install programes the Windows default is to install to the C drive which of course is too small. How do you change the default install drive to D?

I know it is easy just to put a D:/ in when you install a programme but it is not always me who is installing .

I have spent ages going thru registry settings but each time I have failed. Needs some ones knowledge more extensive than mine

Thank you

Look on www.download.com or your favorite downloads site for TweakUI, when you get it downloaded right click on the INF file and pick install. Once it installs goto control panels and open it, on the My Computer tab pick "Program Files" from the pull down list and change it to whatever you want :)

Thank you Steve. Sounds relativley painless and easily transferable to another PC.

Tried Tweakui.

Like all simple solutions there seems to be a down side. As well as now installing to the D drive WinXp also calls older programes still on the C drive (under Program Files directory) now to the D drive. in normal circumstances of course they are still on the C drive While this is simply fixed by transfering them to the D drive be warned this solution is not as fool proof as it sounds.

I am sure there is a registry hack that would be more elegant but as I said before it needs some one more knowledgable than me.
