I am unable to get the driver for my onboard sound to
work. I keep getting an error message "data invalid"
when I try to install the driver. I did an inplace upgrade
to my system to no avail. I took an extra hard drive I have
and installed XP on it fresh and it worked fine. Linux also
finds the onboard audio and it works fine. I have tried
going into regedit , hkey_local_machine, system,
Current control set, enum, PCI and changing the audio
controler permissions to allow Full control. Any ideas
as to what I need to carve out to get this to work ?

Asus A7N8X (not deluxe) 2.0
1 gig Samusung pc3200 ram
ATI radeon 9000
40 and 80 gig WD hard drives
Windows XP home

Thanks .. K

Well I found a fix that worked. All of the stuff related to regedit and rededt32
didn't work. I did a in place upgrade in which you hit

#1 boot from XP CD hit enter for an install
#2 Once it finds your existing windows
#3 THEN hit R for repair
#4 I then used the1.16 drivers from the Asus site

everything works and I lost nothing
