XP Critical Security Update refuses to install! (KB886903)

I was able to install every critical windows update except this one:

[Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903)]

which failed while trying to install on my system. I can't seem to figure out a way for it to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you don't have .NET installed.

If so, you are lucky cause with .NET you automatically get a 'logon' screen.

I've seen issues with critical updates not installing on some PC's. Try booting into safemode with networking and install it.
