1. I have an IDE drive with two partitions and a basic install of XP

2. my main drive is the SATA drive with two partition, I used PM8 to create a new partition out of the main one, it gave me a 'need to reboot message', so I did...now at the XP flash screen it crashes with a quick blue screen that I can't read.

3. Now, being a total idiot I booted into the other xp install and opened partition magic, which noted that partial new partition as unfinished and gave me the option to merge it back which I did.

Other factor- there is no toolbar or access to programs in the other xp install on the IDE drive, they've disappeared lol...I can only access shortcuts on the desktop

Yes, I'm feeling foolish and stumped

Hit F8 on bootup and choose disable automatic rebooting or whatever it's called and see what the STOP error is and go from there.

I don't have that option on my dell 400sc :), I've tried starting in safe mode, but it crashes before it can get it....I built a computer last month, but both SATA drives for it are bad, so I really need to get my dell back up and running.

EDIT- remapped everything, checked for errors, etc., with partition magic, but booting off the IDE drive, then when I finally booted into the SATA drive it tried to resume the original instructions to create a new partition, I was able to abort that and it booted up fine...PM8 does something to the drive when it tries to add a partition...I'll avoid doing that in the future....wheh!
