Has anyone had any success with using an Athlon XP on an older Asus A7V133-C motherboard? I have tried to upgrade my old 1Gig T/bird with an XP1800+ but I have not been able to get the computer to POST with the new CPU.
I have updated (and checked) the bios to the latest version (1009) as suggested on the Asus website and I have had the CPU checked on another system - just to be sure.
Is there anything else I should be doing in the bios prior to changing the CPU, or does the motherboard in fact not support this CPU.

Thanks Soulkeeper, I have just had a look at the website that you suggested and it looks very useful. From what I can tell it looks like the particular revision of my board requires that I set the FSB by using the DIP switches instead of by the bios and that is supposed to work. I will give it a try tomorrow to see what happens.

Thanks again for replying to my thread.

How much performance gain after you upgrade your a7v133 to XP? I have a box with a 1G T-bird and Geforce2 GTS right now.

Sorry about the late reply, I have have been off the Net for a while. The only benchmark I have tried is 3DMark2001 Pro, went from 5250 to 6556 3D marks using a GeForce 3 TI 200, which is a reasonable gain in my opinion. I have noticed that the CPU runs a bit hotter now, up from 48C loaded to 53C, but it all seems stable. God luck with your upgrade.

Hey there Rebel...

I am looking at that motherboard with a 950 Tbird. Got a chance to get it here locally and dirt cheap. How satisfied are you with that board, even before the XP upgrade. I am looking for reliability first and will tweak for performance later.

Thanks,
